The Sabbath

Observing the sabbath is also being obedient to God because the bible teaches us that we should make every attempt to observe the sabbath, which is on the 7th day of the week (Saturday). From the beginning, the sabbath was declared a Holy Day because it was a day that God rested from all his works of creation (reference Genesis 2:1-3). We should make all attempts to rest from our works on the sabbath and keep it holy.

It’s written in the New Testament of the bible “Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God’s people. For the person who has entered his rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from his. Let us, then, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience.” Therefore, my belief as a Christian is aligned with that passage, we should make every effort to observe the Sabbath. Jesus Christ stated that “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath”. The Sabbath is a benefit for man because you receive blessings by obeying God’s commandments.

Jesus Christ performed miracles on the sabbath by healing the sick. He was catering to the needs of others. There are no greater requirements as Christians above love thy God and love thy neighbor as thy self. Showing a love for someone in need is being faithful and obedient to God, it’s showing love of God. Isaiah 56:2 KJV “Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.”

How do you observe the sabbath? The bible teaches us that the sabbath is on the 7th day (Saturday), it is a day that God rested from his works and God want us to do the same, and it’s a day that we should keep Holy.

Sabbath day is a Holy day

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Genesis 2:1-3 KJV

Sabbath rest remains for God’s people

Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God’s people. For the person who has entered his rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from his. Let us, then, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. No creature is hidden from him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.

Hebrews 4:9-13 CSB

Blessed are those who keep the Sabbath

Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

Isaiah 56:2 KJV

Jesus Healed on The Sabbeth.

For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Matthew 12:8-13 KJV

And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace. And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Mark 3:2-5 KJV

And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught

Luke 6:6 KJV

Take pleasure in observing the sabbath, and not in worldly pleasures.

And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Isaiah 58:11-14 KJV

All God’s people will worship on the Sabbath

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Isaiah 66:22-24 KJV
